28.10.16 30 things I learned in 30 years

My 30 things before 30 was one of the first blogs posts I had wrote. I remember writing it and being so hopeful and excited about all the things I wanted to accomplish for myself, my family, and my company. Life had other plans for me and I spent a good part of the last two years trying to figure out who I was and what I wanted, all while working as hard as I could to get my business established and just pay my bills. So many days I felt defeated, hopeless and disappointed because I wasn’t where I thought I would be or where everyone one else around me was at this point in their life. But now when I look back, I’m really proud of myself for having the strength to walk away from unhealthy situations and put my happiness first even if it meant starting over from scratch. I’ve learned more about myself and who I really am in the last two years than in my entire life. All the hard times and heart aches have pushed me to become the person that I needed to be.

Maybe I didn’t complete my 30 things before 30 but what I learned in those years are far more valuable. So instead I have listed the 30 things I have learned.

  1. Love is not what you say or the words you write. Love is what you do.
  2. Everyone has time — it’s all about priorities.
  3. If people treat you badly it’s often a reflection of how they feel about themselves so don’t take it so personally.
  4. Being sensitive is a blessing. It’s much better to care too much than not at all.
  5. The wine ain’t worth the headache.
  6. Embrace my independence.
  7. The only person that can give me the life I deserve and want is me.
  8. A mistake made more than once is a decision.
  9. Always apologize.  Always Forgive. A heavy heart only weighs you down from moving forward.
  10. Don’t stay with someone because it’s easy or you’re scared of being alone. Be with someone you can’t imagine a life without.
  11. Nothing in the world will ever give me more purpose or make me happier than being a mother. It is the most rewarding and amazing experience in this entire world.
  12. It is better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all.
  13. A long drive and music can fix any mood (preferable anything by Eric Church. He’s been through it all with me.)
  14. The people who bring you coffee without asking and make sure you text them to let them know you are home, keep those people in your life!
  15. Hard work pays off.
  16. Your friends are your lifesavers, your cheerleaders and your secret weapon in life. Always value them and let them know how much you appreciate them. (I have the best ones).
  17. The power of a chocolate chip.
  18. When you’re lost the best place to go is back home. There you can find yourself again.
  19. Kindness, compassion, and a sense of humor are the best qualities to look for in people.
  20. Trust your gut — it’s always right but sometimes just enjoy things a little first.
  21. Stop comparing yourself to others and don’t worry so much about what everyone else is doing.
  22. Think positive…Overthinking and worrying gets you absolutely nowhere..Trust me!!
  23. Hard times don’t last forever. It’s OK to cry, things will get better.
  24. People who inspire you, encourage and push you to be better and do better are essential in your success.
  25. People will only change if they want to change and some people just are who they are.
  26. Everybody has good qualities, everyone has a story — get to know people with an open heart.
  27. Don’t have regrets. At one point every decision you made at that moment was what you wanted and made you feel happy. So say how you feel and take chances “better an oops than a what if”.
  28. Expect nothing. Appreciate everything.
  29. Quality over quantity — that includes the clothes, the makeup and the people you choose to have in your life.
  30. I’m stronger than I ever imagined I could be and I’m really proud of who I have fought to become.
